What kind of photo works best for a custom figure?

Short answer

One clear, well-lit photo where the face is easy to see is enough. It doesn't need to be full-body or taken by a professional.

What works well

  • Bright, even light. Daylight from a window is ideal. Faces in deep shadow lose detail.
  • The face clearly visible. Looking at the camera or slightly to the side, with both eyes showing.
  • The original file. Use the photo itself rather than a screenshot or a compressed copy from a chat app.
  • The outfit you want. Clothing, glasses and hairstyle are read from the photo, so pick the look you'd like to keep.

What makes it harder

  • Sunglasses, masks or hands covering the face
  • Beauty filters and heavy editing, which change face shape
  • Strong backlight or night shots with motion blur
  • Group photos where each face is tiny

Full body isn't required

A head-and-shoulders shot is fine. Choose Full body when you create, and the AI designs the rest of the figure. Pets and drawn characters work too.

Up to two subjects per photo

One photo can hold up to two people or pets. See two people or a pet in one figure.

Supported files are JPG, PNG and HEIC. The quickest way to check a photo is to make a free preview — if it isn't quite right, try another photo at no cost.
